Sailing conditions at Piraeus

Piraeus is a large, well-protected harbour. Full sailing bans are less common here than at Rafina or Lavrio, but in strong winds high-speed sailings are often cancelled while conventional ferries still depart.

Athens has three ferry ports. Piraeus is large and well protected, while Rafina and Lavrio face the open Aegean and are usually the first to see departures suspended in strong north winds.
